The Oscar nominations were just revealed and there are several big surprises. “Joker” earned the most nominations with 11 this year, followed by “The Irishman”, “1917” and “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood”, which all received 10 nominations each.
Several actors and actresses were honored with nominations and awards at the Golden Globes that were completely forgotten when it came for the Academy Awards. Robert Di Niro and Jennifer Lopez were nominated for Globes but excluded from the Oscar nominees list. Having won a Globe for Best Actor for “Rocketman,” many thought Taron Egerton would be honored with an Oscar as well. However, the star was not nominated at all.
Despite having a big year for female film directors, none were nominate for the 2020 Oscars. Greta Gerwig (Little Women), Lulu Wang (The Farewell), Lorene Scafaria (Hustlers), Marielle Heller (Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood), Alma Har’el (Honey Boy) and Olivia Wilde (Booksmart) were all shut out from the male dominated category.
Disney’s box office blockbuster “Frozen 2” was shockingly not recognized for Best Animated film meanwhile Beyonce’s songs for The Lion King were left out of the Best Original Song Category.
Surprisingly the foreign film everyone is talking about “Parasite” was included in the Best Picture category. Antonio Banderas was recognized for his work in “Pain and Glory” with a nomination for “Best Actor”.
The Oscar’s will not have a host again this year and will air on Sunday February 9th on ABC.
